The first 5 people to submit their entry this month were (in order) Lynne Quinn, Shirley Henry, Jenene Evans, Fiona Shultz, and Laurence Schmitz. I put their names in order into a random list generator, and the person that came out on the top of the list was.....

Star Art Journal Page.

Hello one and all!

Today's entry is an Art Journal that was sent in by Lisa Balm:

Lisa says:

"The page itself is painted using water colour paints. I then used various star stamps from Love Elsie Roxie clear stamps, and Inque Li'L stamps Fairytales".

"My art journal is something I started a year or so ago and whenever I feel the urge I create something in it, (usually when im in a scrapbooking slump) I use it to play around and get some mojo going again. Sometimes it even works! :)".

Great work Lisa!

Only 4 more days left (including today) to get your star themed entries in!! There are some awesome prizes up for grabs again this month and you've gotta be in it to win them!

Here's a quote I came across today that I thought was nice, that fits our Stars theme perfectly:

"Perhaps they are not stars but rather openings in heaven, where the love of our lost ones shines down upon us to let us know they are happy".

Happy stamping!

*** WINNERS FOR MAY 2010! ***

Hello stampers!!

I bet you're all busting to know who the winners are for last month's Mail Art challenge aren't you??!

Well, I'm pleased to say that it's now time to reveal them!

But first let me say how much I loved seeing all the awesome mail art! I was even lucky enough to receive a few of them in my letter box! Thank you to all of those people that got out of their comfort zone and gave the challenge a go! As always, it was very hard to pick the winners!

Check out all the awesome entries in the slideshow:

Excellent work by everyone involved!!

Drum roll please................

The lucky winners are:

Major Prize:

EMILY SHULTZ!! Emily's mail art entry was gorgeous - so full of technique too. And get this - she's only 12! So talented! Emily has won the Mail Art Stamp set and 6 Marvy Le Plume Markers, courtesy of Darkroom Door!

Inkurable Newbie Prize:

Now, this was a tricky one! Dawn Lewis was the only Inkurable Newbie entry last month, but since she and I are good friends, and I was personally sponsoring this prize last month, we decided that it would be unfair of her to receive the prize. So instead, I let her pick her favourite entry to give the prize to instead! So congratulations goes to ROS CRICHTON!! You have won the Stamp and Stick Gluepad, courtesy of Me! Dawn and I both agree that your entry was gorgeous!

Inkurable International:

MARIANNE VERSCHOOF from The Netherlands! I just loved Marianne's Mail Art envelope - lots of stamping, and awesome colouring techniques! Marianne has won the "Tattered Traveller" Glimmerscreen, courtesy of The Stamping Queen!

CONGRATULATIONS LADIES!!!!

Enjoy your prizes!

Back to the Star entries!

Hello stampers!

I hope you all had a lovely start to the week!

It's time to share our latest Stars challenge entry, which was sent in by Vicky Fernando:

Vicky says:

"I've used one of the ATC sized STAMPBORD tiles, & the image is by Stamp-it. I covered the tile with Stazon inks (red & purple, though the red is more like a pink). I then stamped part of the image with black ink & added the lace stamp (by Darkroom Door), and got to work with the scratch knife".

"The beautiful ribbon is from CRAFT QUEEN, & I've used my new TH Alterations die (which works perfectly with the Cuttlebug!). I used the sentiment from a Non Sequitur plate, stamped onto white cardtsock with Versafine ink & covered with clear embossing powder, distressed the edges and added Adirondak ink (Lettuce)".

Great work Vicky!!

Vicky also created these fab star themed ATC's that I just had to share with you guys:

Vicky used stamps by Non Sequitur, Prima, Time to Stamp, and Darkroom Door.

That's it for entries at the moment, but while I'm here I have a few other things to mention:

* I was having trouble with emails on the weekend, so if you've sent through your entry and it hasn't been shown on the blog yet, please re-send it. :) But if you're still yet to complete your entry - what are you waiting for?!! :) My inbox is feeling very unloved. :P

* For all you Gothic Arch lovers, Gothic Arch Queen Nancy Maxwell James has created a FREE eBook all about them:

* I'm busy blogging here at Inkurable, but did you know I also have another blog where I post all my own stuff? I've been neglecting it a bit lately (well, a lot actually!), but I'm going to be blogging there more regularly from now on! There will be lots of different creative stuff to see, and I want you to join me for the ride! So pop on over to my blog, add it to your favourites, add it to your Blogger Followers list, and don't forget to leave a comment so I know you've popped past! :) Thanks!!

Now don't you have some stamping to do?

Gothic Arch Challenge #10 - STEAMPUNK!

I thought it was time to do something a little more challenging with our 2010 Gothic Arch Challenge, so I chose Steampunk as the latest theme as I love the look and have always wanted to give it a go myself! This will give me a good excuse! LOL!

What is Steampunk?

Steampunk, as defined by Wikipedia is:

"A sub-genre of science fiction and speculative fiction, frequently featuring elements of fantasy, that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used — usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era Britain[citation needed] — but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of "the path not taken" of such technology as dirigiblesanalog computers, or digital mechanical computers (such as Charles Babbage's Analytical engine); these frequently are presented in an idealized light, or with a presumption of functionality."

Apart from that longwinded and somewhat confusing definition, there seems to be no one definite  explanation of what "Steampunk" actually is. A google search of "Steampunk" will give you many different answers of what "Steampunk" means to different people. The definition also seems to change whether you are talking about Art, or Music, or Fashion etc. But for our purposes, we'll be focusing on the Steampunk movement in Art, where you see people altering modern day objects using the Steampunk style. Wikipedia says: "The goal of such redesigns is to employ appropriate materials (such as polished brass, iron, wood, and leather) with design elements and craftsmanship consistent with the Victorian era".

Here is an example of a laptop computer that has been altered using the Steampunk style by Richard Nagy of Datamancer.net:

See it's full awesomeness here.

Steampunk to me is a fusion of the Victorian Era, mechanical moving parts, where old meets new to create a fantasized reality. It's old fashioned, with a technological twist.

The very best way I've heard Steampunk described was in an article in the May/June 2009 Issue of Somerset Studio, in an article titled "Spirit of Steampunk" by Ramona Szcerba:

"Do you find yourself inexplicably drawn to old photographs, Victorian garb, dirigibles, steamships, unlikely mechanised contraptions and fantastical juxtapositions of worlds natural and industrial? If so, you may have a hidden passion for Steampunk, a stylistic genre which originally arose out of science fiction, fantasy, and speculative fiction".

A quick visit to Ramona's Etsy shop and you will find gorgeous Steampunk artworks to inspire you for this challenge!

Common elements in Steampunk design are:

* Cogs, and mechanical parts
* Metals
* Leather
* Wood
* Vintage images
* Glass apothecary jars

Here are some useful links to get you into the spirit of Steampunk:

* Datamancer.net.
* Steampunk Cakes @Cakewrecks
* The Steampunk Home
* Steampunk Magazine
* Steampunk Workshop
* Steampunk photos at Flickr
* Steampunk Inchies and Twinchies
* Art creations by Azirca

Now you know what Steampunk is, I bet you're just dying to see what our Guest Artist Sarah Fawcett has created for us to show us how it's done?! Well wait no longer! Behold, the awesomeness that is Sarah's Steampunk Gothic Arch Book:

Sarah says:

"The main technique I used for making my Steampunk Gothic Arch was metal etching using rubber stamps. With metal etching you need Staz on ink to stamp your image onto the metal. The stamped image will be the resist when immersing into the chemical Ferric Chloride-Etchant Solution. There are many instructions on Google and you tube about metal etching, so I would advise you to research plenty first before jumping in".

"With my Gothic Arch I used the 3 metals that you can etch - brass, copper and nickel. I used Collections Elements Chipboard Arches as a template for the metal and etched them using again Collections Elements and Tim Holtz stamps. Once they were etched, I used a black patina which makes the design of the stamps come alive".

"Inside the last arched door, I stamped my favourite Zettiology stamp onto a piece of transparency. Then layered behind another Collections Elements transparency from Julie's new collection to give the illusion of depth which you cant quite see in the photos but you can also see through to the etched copper behind the face".

"I used a variety of watch parts, and Tim Holtz findings to decorate the front, then I carved an old book in the shape of the arch to make my own Gothic arch steampunk mini book".

OMG! There are not enough superlatives in the english language to describe how much I love this piece!! Sarah has totally ROCKED the Steampunk theme!

But wait - there's MORE!!

Sarah also created a gorgeous Gothic Arch Steampunk necklace:

Sarah says:

"In my small jewellery piece, I again used the metal etching technique using Collection Elements rubber stamps and chipboard arches. I made a shadow box out of a stack of text paper from an old book. I carved out the shape and shadow, glued all paper together and decorated the inside of the arch".

"I used old watch parts and an image of a man. I glued on a sliver of mica to protect whats in the shadow box, then glued and screwed the front and back etched metal arches. Then I finished it off with Tim Holtz’s cogs and gears and chain".

Again - gobsmackingly awesome!!!!

So now it's your turn!!

Create a Steampunk themed Gothic Arch and upload it to our dedicated Flickr Group. Remember - your arch can be any size, and medium, any thing you like!! Challenge deadline is 31st December 2010, so you have plenty of time to play! See the full challenge details here. Don't forget to use at least 1 stamp!

I can't wait to see what you all do with this theme!!

A huge THANK YOU goes out to Sarah Fawcett for sharing her fabulous creations with us! Let her know how much you appreciate it by leaving her some love in the comments section. :) And don't forget to pop by her blog to see more of her fabulous creations!

Happy stamping!

Please Welcome Guest Artist Sarah Fawcett!

Sarah Fawcett is an Australian papercraft and mixed media artist, whom I have long been a fan of, and I am extremely excited to have her as a guest artist here at Inkurable for Sunday's new Gothic Arch challenge theme! I'm sure you will all love her work as much as I do!

But before you get to see her phenomenal Gothic Arch creations on Sunday, I wanted to introduce you all to her, and help you get to know her a little better! I asked her a few questions, and here are her answers:

1. Have you ever made a Gothic Arch before?

I had never really made a Gothic Arch as such before, though looking back on some of my work from years past, I had used arches in a gothic way - e.g in my Halloween Book which I am still working on and hoping to finish one day. Check it out here.

2. When stamping, do you prefer red rubber stamps, or clear stamps? Why?

I really don’t have a preference to red rubber or clear stamps. I usually buy for the design of the stamp. The only gripe I have with clear stamps is that sometimes I find them either sticky and no good to use with Stazon ink, or they bead the ink on the stamp and never giving a clear crisp image when you stamp.

(Note from Sarah S - If you have the same problem, check out my post from a while back called  "Getting the most from your Acrylic Stamps"!).

3. What is your favourite stamp in your collection?

My absolutely favourite stamp in my collection would have to be the male head from Zettiology (see it here) that I used in my Gothic Arch (to be revealed on Sunday!). I adore their quirky odd images. My next favourite lot of stamps is anything from Collections Elements, and Tim Holtz’s stamp ranges. Anything with a vintage look and feel I love.

4. How often do you use stamps in your projects?

I use stamps in some shape or form in just about everything I do. From making cards to metal etching. I have all my stamps stamped in a book of paper so I can see whats in my collection at any given time, and it also helps when trying to choose a stamp and see if it will work without hunting for the stamp, then stamping it, only to find out it doesn’t.

5. What is your favourite stamping / inking technique?

Besides any distress vintage techniques that are out there, my favourite technique right now is using stamps for metal etching.

You can check out Sarah's creations on her blog at http://saimba.blogspot.com

Now, you'll have to wait until Sunday to see Sarah's awesome Gothic Arch creations and find out the new challenge theme, but I'll leave you with this sneak peek of fabulousness to whet your appetite:

And if you think that's cool - just wait until you see the entire project!!

Until then.......

Stampbord Stars!

Hello stampers!

Today's entry was sent in by Carmen Sanchez of Spain:

Carmen says:

"It's a piece of stampbord that I inked with distress inks. I stamped a star (designed by Nathalie Kalbach), and scratched in some of the accents. I then painted the stars edges with cosmic shimmer and gave the whole piece a coat of clear and brightz UTEE".

"I'll maybe use it as a pendant, a brooch or as an embellishment for one of my pages. I haven't decided yet!".

Lovely work Carmen!

Be sure to come back tomorrow for more lovely star inspired projects! :)

Star ATC's!

Hi stampers!

I have 2 new entries to share with you today, which means all 5 spots in the RAK draw have now been taken up! Stay tuned for the winner!

First we have this ATC that was sent in by Fiona Shultz:

Fiona says:

"I have used two stamps in my ATC. The first one is Stampotique ‘Eric’ – although I chopped most of him off to fit on the ATC appropriately, and chopped one of his arms in half and repositioned it to look like he was catching the star. The star is from a Stamp It stamp I’ve had for quite a while called ‘Curvy Christmas Tree’".

"The background stars were made using an old embossing plate/tool, then carefully coloured with VersaMark pen and clear embossing powder. The star, though not sparkly in the photo, is covered in AED ‘white fizz’ glitter. The sky and Eric have all been coloured with distress inks".

Very cool Fiona!

Next we have an ATC that was sent in by Laurence Schmitz from Belgium:

Laurence says:

"I glued tissue paper on an ATC-sized cardstock and colored it with liquid watercolors (Ecoline). When dried I applied acrylic paint (silver) on the raised ridges with my finger and heat embossed the stars with blue embossing powder"

"The tree (stamp by Infinimentscrap) is stamped with versafine and I added black stickles on the leaves. The words are typed with my old typewriter".

Lovely work Laurence!

Just one quick note before I go - Darkroom Door are having a giveaway on their blog this week, and are sharing projects from the Creative Team using the new Frangipani Photo Stamp. Pop on over to the blog to check out our creations, and leave a comment there for your chance to win!

I'm Seeing Stars!

Hellooooooooo stampers!

I'm here today to share the first lot of entries into our Stars challenge! Let's get right into it!

Our first entry comes from Lynne Quinn:

Lynne says:

"On this card I first embossed with Music folder, then sponged with Colour Box Chalk Ink. I used Cranberry Paint Dauber for the Large star, and when dry I added Diamond Stickles".

"The Words, Rock Star, and the large black stars are a Darkroom Door stamps from the Music range, and Elvis is a Photo from Papertole Aust".

Very cool Lynne! And dare I say it, "Thank-you very much". LOL!

Next we have a card that was sent in by Shirley Henry:

Shirley says:

"The moon/owls stamp from Rubber Bandit was stamped in Versafine black. Sitting Owl from Stamp World was stamped in Walnut Stain Distress ink, then coloured with markers. I masked the stamps, then sponged Faded Jeans and Stormy Sky for the background".

"The tree branches are are die cuts (Sullivans). I embossed the branches with the Distressed Stripes embossing folder. The birds are a Martha Stewart border punch (Birds on a Wire). Don`t ya just love it?! White gel pen was used to create clusters of small stars and for the eyes of the birds. I used two different star punches to punch out the other star shapes"
.

Awesome work Shirley!

Last one for today is a hanger that was sent in by Jenene Evans:

Jenene says:

"For this month's 'Star' challenge, I have made a 17x12 cm hanger. I'm thinking it might be for my little 2 year old grandson, he loves singing, and playing his guitar, a real little rock star!".

"I have used paper from 'Lime Rickey' and 'Daisyd's, boy stamp by 'Stampotique', text stamp by 'Darkroom Door' on the tag, and the music note I think is Tim Holtz"
.

Great work Jenene! I'm sure he will love it!!

That's it for today! Be sure to check back tomorrow for more Star inspired creations!

These 3 ladies' names have gone into the draw for a RAK, just for being one of the first 5 people to send in an entry this month! I only have 1 more entry waiting in my inbox, which means there is still 1 spot left in the first 5! Don't miss out! Send in an entry soon!

Stay inky!

Gothic Arch Challenge #9 - ASIA!

It's finally time for another Gothic Arch challenge theme! Im running a bit behind at the moment - we're 2 down so far, but I hope to catch up very soon! Thanks for your patience! ;)

If you're new to the blog, or have simply forgotten because it's been too long (LOL!) I am running a year long Gothic Arch challenge during 2010, and by the end of the year we will have created 24 Gothic Arches to do with what we like! The deadline is 31st December, so you can take as long as you like to get them completed! Check out the full details here.

Our 9th Gothic Arch challenge theme is ASIA!

Your task is to create an Asian inspired Gothic Arch, using at least 1 stamp.

Here is my example:

I created the background by stamping the hero Arts Bamboo Stamp twice onto white cardstock using Versamark ink, and heat embossing using clear embossing powder. I then inked the background using a mixture of Broken China, Peeled Paint, and Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks, before spraying over the top with Pearl Glimmermist. The background is actually quite shimmery, which you can't see in the photo.

I stamped the Hero Arts girl with black ink onto white paper, and then coloured her in with Copic markers. I went over her hair with a black Copic marker for a smoother finish. The platform she is standing on is actually a Maya Road stamp of the bottom half of a cupcake that I have turned upside down! I cut them out and adhered them to the background.

I inked around the edges of my arch with Walnut Stain Distress Ink, and added a strip of copper coloured German Scrap Border to the bottom.

The Chinese coin is a brad to which I have added some red cord which is common in Chinese decorations, and brings good luck.

Now it's your turn!

Upload your Arches into our official Inkurable Stampers 2010 Gothic Arch Challenge Flickr Group, and while you're there, check out all the fabulous creations that have been uploaded so far!

I've lined up some special guest artists to bring you the next few challenge themes, so stay tuned! :)

Happy stamping!

Please welcome back Tarisota Collections!

This month I am very pleased to be welcoming back Tarisota Collections as a permanent sponsor of Inkurable Stampers!

Tarisota has recently been closed for a site make-over and has undergone some big changes to make your experience even better than before! It's has now re-opened and is ready to show you that they really are a crafting site like no other!

Here is the new front page (click image to go straight there):

Tarisota ais still working out some kinks with the whole site revamp so in the meantime they will operate from the blog here with more usability coming on over the next three months.

Here, Tamar explains about the changes:

Whats New?

We are so thrilled to announce the introduction of our brand new STYLE STUDIO - unlike anything else you may have experienced online. Many of you have enjoyed our classes over the years and are inspired by our jam-packed galleries and as well over time we seem to have amassed a stash of crafting product and perhaps a few barely opened Tari pizza boxes - so in order to amalgamate that for you we have created a MONTH LONG class which will run every second month.

Five designers have worked on one theme - first up is Styling with Fabric. Each designer introduces and steps you through 5 projects through the month - thats 25 projects in total and a few fun extras! Scrapbooking, stitching, craft and art projects. Step by steps, photos, pattern downloads, video presentations and the chance for some chatting too! The best part of online is you can access it at anytime you don't need to be around at a certain time.

For more details on the Styling with Fabric class,
head over here.

They also have an awesome new gallery here, and a brand new Flickr group where you can share your Tarisota creations!

Whats the same??

We are still delivering fabulous collections with our wonderfully talented design team.

We have listened to our customers and are bringing you exactly what you say you'd like - one collection with all the goodies you have loved from Tarisota at an affordable price.

So no longer will we have three collections of Inspiration, Obsession and Addiction - instead just a straight I WANT IT ALL style collection at half the price. These will only be released every second month and are available until sold out - you may notice they are no longer called "X Month" Collection but have been given a fun name. The last Mail Art entries!

Hi stampers!

The deadline for the Mail Art challenge has officially passed! Thank you to everyone who sent in an entry this month.

Here are the very last entries for this challenge.......

First we have this Mail Art Envelope from Shirley Henry:

Shirley says:

"My envelope is 14inx10in. Darkroom Door and Stampotique stamps were used. I used the Darkroom Door Plaid background stamp  for the address area. The flowers are from the Darkroom Door "Essentials 4" collection. Butterflies are from Darkroom Door. "Merry Fairy" and "Mr. Stripes" are Stampotique stamps. Distress inks and Versafine black ink used".

"I punched out a scallop circle to use as a template to make clouds. Tumbled glass ink sponged on for sky and shabby shutters for grass. The fairy and spider were coloured with gelly pens"
.

Great work Shirley!

And lastly we have this Mail Art Envelope by Carmen Sanchez from Spain:

Carmen says:

"I used distress inks, stamps from Hero Arts, Inkadinkado, and prima. A Fiskars punch, some foil, masks, crackle paint and glimmer mist".

Carmen even made a video on the making of her envelope!

Fabulous work Carmen!

That officially brings our mail art challenge entries to a close!

Stay tuned for the next challenge!
